The opportunity
Southern New Hampshire University’s Wolak Learning Center (WLC) is seeking a Graduate Assistant for academic support on the Manchester campus. In collaboration with the Tutoring Coordinators and the tutoring team, the Graduate Assistant will provide academic support to University College students in the areas of math, science, technology, engineering, game design/game arts, writing, liberal arts, business and study skills.
This position is open to all full-time graduate students and is an opportunity for students interested in the field of teaching, higher education, or college student development to learn practical skills in those areas. The Graduate Assistant position can be customized to a student’s interests and background. The Graduate Assistant will have the chance to understand higher education and grow as a student and professional.
The ideal candidates will have exceptional organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills; oral and written communication skills; adaptability and flexibility; and student leadership experience. Candidates must be able to work independently, collaborate with the team regularly, and be willing to jump in and take on additional projects as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with day-to-day administrative functions. This may include:
Providing academic coaching to students in the Academic Recovery Program
Academic coaching involves assisting students with time management, organization, goal setting and referring students to appropriate campus resources.
Assisting tutoring coordinators with developing new programs and initiatives to further support the student tutoring needs on campus
Recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and evaluating Peer Educators
Scheduling tutoring appointments based on specificity of student discipline, coursework and need
Providing tutoring services as needed
Collaborate with the staff of the Wolak Learning Center and members of the peer tutoring team. This may include:
Researching, developing and presenting discipline-specific trainings
Mentoring new tutors
Marketing WLC services to the campus community at events and in classes
Assisting with first-year academic support
Building connections with departments and offices on-campus
Creating tutoring resources
Developing, promoting, and running a variety of events and special programs targeted for undergraduate students
Observing, evaluating, and providing feedback to tutors
Adapting to support diverse student needs
Completing other special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Full-time enrollment in a graduate degree program at SNHU
Bachelor’s degree in preferred relevant field
Must have a 3.00 or above undergraduate cumulative GPA
Submit Cover Letter and Resume for consideration
Strong knowledge of MS Office that supports office processes
Graduate Assistants are expected to provide personal laptop/computer for virtual sessions
Preferred Qualifications:
The WLC is seeking to hire a Graduate Assistant who can support at least one of the following key areas of focus:
Business
Strengths in accounting, economics, finance, marketing, and/or quantitative studies
Mathematics
Strengths in statistics, calculus, applied linear algebra, and/or differential equations
Science, Technology and Engineering
Strengths in biology, chemistry, game design/game art, computer science, physics, and/or engineering
Writing and Liberal Arts
Strengths in academic writing, research, and citations
All candidates should possess the following:
At least 1 year of tutoring and/or previous teaching experience
Strong academic background
Ability to establish a supportive relationship with students
Learning Outcomes:
Develop skills to assist tutees in specific content areas using multiple in-person modalities and develop specific differentiated tutoring strategies to meet various needs of learners based on learner preferences, strengths/weaknesses, background, or prior knowledge.
Model effective tutoring strategies and skills. Develop leadership skills through mentoring peer tutors, leading tutor trainings, and assisting coordinators with other individualized projects to further the mission of the Wolak Learning Center.
Incorporate study habits, motivation, and strategies in tutoring sessions consistent with those emphasized in tutor trainings.
Incorporate effective communication skills and improve professional skills for post-SNHU employment opportunities.

Compensation
The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
